First Pipistrel's Alpha Electro took flight in Australia

On 2. January 2018 the first serially-built Pipistrel Alpha Electro took flight in Australia. The aircraft, which received a Special Certificate of Airworthiness from Australia's Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) in October 2017, took off from Perth's Jandakot Airport and conducted two circuits around Jandakot (the 5th busiest airport in the southern hemisphere with more than 375,000 movements last year). It then went on to complete another seven hours of flying over the following two days before being handed over to Electro.Aero, the aircraft's operator.
The Alpha Electro can be registered in Australia as either a recreational aircraft or with CASA. In both cases it can be used for training, even to obtain PPL. The Pipistrel Alpha Electro is the first electric aircraft that offers the possibility of PPL training.

The aircraft was sold and all the paperwork done by our Australian distributor, X-Air Australia and its representative, Mr. Michael Coates. The new owner of the aircraft, Perth-based company Electro.Aero, stated on their Facebook pagethat they were satisfied with the new aircraft.
Mr. Richard Charlton, the finance director of Electro.Aero said in his statement for Australian Aviation that it was a smooth first flight. "It was very much without drama. We were just in the pattern behind a normal aeroplane and the control tower was very excited. They knew all about what was happening."
Charlton said the aircraft was much quieter and cheaper to operate than equivalent-sized aircraft, powered by piston engines."The main issue with petrol is the maintenance costs of what is a more complex engine," Charlton said. "The electric engine is really simple. It has one moving part, it's a very small piece of equipment and it is a solid-state motor."

The General Manager of Pipistrel, Mr. Ivo Boscarol said an all-electric training aircraft would help lower the cost of becoming a pilot.
"Technologies developed specially for this aircraft cut the cost of ab-initio pilot training by as much as 70 percent, making flying more affordable than ever before," Boscarol said. "The biggest advantage is being able to conduct training on smaller airfields closer to towns with zero CO2 emissions and minimum noise."
For now, the Electro.Aero company is offering trial instructional flights with the Alpha Electro, with a view to eventually offering ab-initio flight training all the way torecreational pilot certificate in the near future.

Iberia ha lanzado hoy su primera campaña de precios de 2018, que tradicionalmente cuenta con los mejores precios de todo el año. Durante 15 días, la aerolínea tira los precios para volar a todos los destinos de su red.
En concreto, vuelos nacionales desde solo 25 euros por trayecto y a Europa desde 29 euros. Iberia quiere acercar también otros continentes ofreciendo precios de escándalo para viajar a ellos; por ejemplo, vuelos a Asia desde 199 euros por trayecto; a Estados Unidos desde 200, a destinos caribeños desde 274 o a destinos en América Latina desde 299 euros por trayecto.
Esta campaña también incluye la posibilidad de comprar de forma conjunta el vuelo y el hotel, por ejemplo, vuelo de ida y vuelta a Nueva York + 7 días de hotel desde 599 euros; o vuelo de ida y vuelta a Londres o Tenerife + 2 noches de hotel desde 139 euros. Además, Iberia también ha lanzado descuentos de hasta un 50 por ciento en el alquiler del coche al reservar vuelos + coche al mismo tiempo. Por ejemplo, vuelo de ida y vuelta a Miami + alquiler del coche durante 7 días desde 499 euros, o en Roma desde 129 euros.
El lema de la campaña en todos ellos es “Eres más”. Viajando somos más, más de descubrir, de probar cosas, de vivir; en definitiva, más nosotros. Y encima, con estos precios, viajar más, te costará menos.

Airbus rolls out first A321neo ACF

New evolution with longer range and higher capacity
Airbus has completed assembly of the first A321neo ACF (Airbus Cabin Flex) at its facilities in Hamburg, Germany. The aircraft, powered by CFM LEAP-1A engines, will undergo ground tests prior to its scheduled first flight in the coming weeks. First delivery of an A321neo ACF to a customer is scheduled for mid-2018.
The A321neo ACF is the latest addition to the successful A320 Family. By applying modifications to the fuselage, the ACF enables more flexible cabin configurations for up to 240 passengers. Compared to the previous A321 variant, the most visible modifications are a new rear section and a modified passenger door configuration, where the door located forward of the wing is removed and new overwing emergency exits in the centre section are introduced. The A321neo ACF is an option today and will become standard for all A321neos around 2020.
The A321neo ACF is the base for a longer range variant known as the A321LR. The A321LR has an increased MTOW (Maximum Take Off Weight) of 97 tonnes and a third underfloor fuel tank allowing airlines to increase its range to 4,000 nautical miles for intercontinental flights. The first delivery of an A321LR is targeted for the fourth quarter of 2018.
The A321 is the largest member of the A320 Family, seating up to 240 passengers, depending on cabin configuration. Incorporating the latest engines, aerodynamic advances and cabin innovations, the A321neo offers a reduction in fuel consumption of at least 15 percent per seat from day one and 20 percent by 2020.
End of the Line: Bizjets to Beer Cans
With the FAA mandate for ADS-B equipage looming at the beginning of 2020, there is debate within the industry as to whether this added expense will precipitate a major retirement of elderly business aircraft, those whose diminished value and use would scarcely justify the cost of the upgrade.
