Empresas aeronáuticas andaluzas buscan oportunidades de negocio en la Feria AEROMART Toulouse con el apoyo de EXTENDA

Andalucía lideró las exportaciones aeronáuticas españolas en 2017 con 3.293 millones de euros y Francia como segundo mercado al concentrar el 22% de las ventas
Un total de ocho empresas andaluzas del sector aeronáutico han participado en la XII Feria Aeromart Toulouse 2018 con el apoyo de la Consejería de Conocimiento, Investigación y Universidad, a través de Extenda-Agencia Andaluza de Promoción Exterior. La cita, considerada uno de los principales eventos mundiales del sector aeroespacial, se ha celebrado en Toulouse (Francia) del 4 al 6 de diciembre.
Las firmas andaluzas han presentado en esta feria sus capacidades ante los responsables de compra de las principales empresas del sector aeroespacial, que se reúnen bianualmente en Aeromart para aprovechar las oportunidades de negocio que genera este evento de primera línea de la industria aeronáutica.
En esta edición han participado 1.300 empresas de 45 países, las cuales han mantenido más de 15.000 reuniones bilaterales. Además de la presencia de todas las regiones francesas, en la cita han estado representadas las industrias aeronáuticas de Estados Unidos, Italia, Alemania, Reino Unido o Turquía, Japón, Brasil o Portugal.
De este modo, además de presentar su oferta a través del stand correspondiente, las empresas de la comunidad han desarrollado una agenda de reuniones bilaterales con agentes del sector de su interés. Junto a ello, los participantes han tenido la oportunidad de asistir a los talleres y conferencias programados en el evento, que este año se han centrado en las infraestructuras espaciales y los modelos de subcontratación.
El aeronáutico es un sector estratégico para la economía de Andalucía, que lideró las exportaciones españolas del sector en 2017 con 3.293 millones de euros, el 57% de las ventas nacionales, una cifra que refleja que las empresas andaluzas han duplicado su facturación internacional en sólo tres años, con un alza del 112%. Francia es el segundo mercado de la industria aeronáutica andaluza, con 739 millones de euros en ventas en 2017, el 22,4% del total.
Empresas andaluzas en Aeromart
La delegación andaluza presente en Aeromart con el apoyo de Extenda ha estado integrada por ocho empresas, de las cuales seis proceden de Sevilla (Grabysur, Galvatec, Aerotecnic Metallic, Bosado, Sofitec, Casemedia Embalajes); y dos de Cádiz (M&M y Airtificial).
La organización de esta acción por parte de Extenda será cofinanciada con fondos procedentes de la Unión Europea a través del P.O. FEDER de Andalucía 2014-2020, dotado con una contribución comunitaria del 80%.
Liderazgo aeronáutico
Según datos de Extenda, Andalucía lideró las exportaciones españolas del sector aeronáutico en 2017 con 3.293 millones de euros, el 57% de las ventas nacionales, una cifra que supone duplicar el dato de 2015 y multiplicar por siete la factura exportadora de la última década, cuando ha sumado 2.800 millones de euros más en exportaciones.
Con estos datos, Andalucía ha pasado en este periodo de ser la segunda a la primera comunidad autónoma de España en exportaciones aeronáuticas, adelantando a Madrid, al pasar de suponer del 20,7% de las ventas nacionales a concentrar el 57%. Asimismo, el sector ha triplicado su peso en el global de las exportaciones andaluzas hasta representar el 10,7% en 2017, aportando diversificación al comercio internacional de la comunidad.
Francia fue el segundo mercado del aeronáutico andaluz en 2017, al que facturó 739 millones de euros, el 22,4% del total, lo que significa que Andalucía ha multiplicado por ocho sus exportaciones al mercado galo en la última década. Sevilla y Cádiz concentran la totalidad de las ventas, que encabeza Sevilla con 443 millones vendidos en 2017, el 60% del total; mientras que Cádiz suma 296 millones, el 40%.
Apoyo al sector aeronáutico
Extenda apoya al sector aeronáutico andaluz de manera específica a través de diversas acciones de promoción internacional, diseñadas para atender las necesidades de las empresas tanto de manera individual como agrupada. En lo que ha transcurrido de 2018, Extenda ha atendido a casi un centenar de empresas aeronáuticas de Andalucía a través de 134 acciones, que, en conjunto, han sumado más de 300 participaciones.
Entre las acciones de Extenda en las que han participado empresas andaluzas aeronáuticas destacan ADM Sevilla, que contó con más de una treintena de firmas del sector; el Encuentro empresarial Aerospace Summit Bruselas o IMEX Andalucía, con presencia de 23 empresas aeronáuticas. Junto a ello, la industria andaluza se ha promocionado en ferias como Farnborough o ILA Berlín Air Show, así como en el mercado americano a través de la misión comercial directa a Estados Unidos organizada por Extenda, a la que se sumaron una quincena de firmas.

Gulfstream G650ER Connects New York With Dubai In Record Time

The G650ER flew from Teterboro, New Jersey, to Dubai, United Arab Emirates, a distance of 6,142 nautical miles/11,375 kilometers, in just 11 hours and two minutes. The flight was completed at an average speed of Mach 0.90.

HondaJet Elite Receives Type Certification in Japan

Pratt & Whitney Inaugurates New Aerospace Engineering Center in Puerto Rico

Avolon firms up order for 100 A320neo Family aircraft

Dublin, Ireland-headquartered aircraft lessor Avolon has firmed up an order for 75 A320neos and 25 A321neos. The agreement is the single largest order for Airbus aircraft ever placed by Avolon.
The agreement takes Avolon’s cumulative orders with Airbus to 284 aircraft (240 single-aisles and 44 widebody aircraft) including the A321neo, the A330neo and the A350 XWB.

Boeing, ELG Carbon Fibre find new life for airplane structure material in groundbreaking partnership

SEATTLE, Dec. 5, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Boeing [NYSE:BA] and ELG Carbon Fibre today announced a partnership to recycle excess aerospace-grade composite material, which will be used by other companies to make products such as electronic accessories and automotive equipment.
The agreement – the first of its kind for the aerospace industry – covers excess carbon fiber from 11 Boeing airplane manufacturing sites and will reduce solid waste by more than one million pounds a year.
Carbon-fiber reinforced material is extremely strong and lightweight, making it attractive for a variety of uses, including in building the super-efficient 787 Dreamliner and the all-new 777X airplane.
As the largest user of aerospace-grade composites from its commercial and defense programs, Boeing has been working for several years to create an economically viable carbon fiber reuse industry. The company improved its production methods to minimize excess and developed a model for collecting scrap material.
But technical barriers stood in the way of repurposing material that had already been "cured" or prepped for use in the airplane manufacturing process. UK-based ELG developed a proprietary method to recycle "cured" composites so they do not have to be thrown out.
"Recycling cured carbon fiber was not possible just a few years ago," said Tia Benson Tolle, Boeing Materials & Fabrication director for Product Strategy & Future Airplane Development. "We are excited to collaborate with ELG and leverage innovative recycling methods to work toward a vision where no composite scrap will be sent to landfills."
To prove that the recycling method can be applied on a grand scale, Boeing and ELG conducted a pilot project where they recycled excess material from Boeing's Composite Wing Center in Everett, Wash., where the massive wings for the 777X airplane are made.
ELG put the excess materials through treatment in a furnace, which vaporizes the resin that holds the carbon fiber layers together and leaves behind clean material. Over the course of 18 months, the companies saved 380,000 pounds of carbon fiber, which was cleaned and sold to companies in the electronics and ground transportation industries.
"Security of supply is extremely important when considering using these materials in long-term automotive and electronic projects," said Frazer Barnes, managing director of ELG Carbon Fibre. "This agreement gives us the ability to provide that assurance, which gives our customers the confidence to use recycled materials."
Based on the success of the pilot project, Boeing says the new agreement should save a majority of the excess composite material from its 11 sites, which will support the company's goal to reduce solid waste going to landfills 20 percent by 2025.
"This collaboration takes Boeing's commitment to protect the environment to a whole new level. Recycling composites will eventually be as commonplace as recycling aluminum and titanium," said Kevin Bartelson, 777 Wing Operations leader.
Boeing and ELG are considering expanding the agreement to include excess material from three additional Boeing sites in Canada, China and Malaysia.
As a result of the partnership, ELG estimates the number of its employees will nearly triple from 39 in 2016 to an expected 112 by the end of 2019 as the recycling market continues to expand.
Boeing Launches Longest-Range Business Jet Ever with BBJ 777X

The BBJ 777-9 provides an even larger cabin measuring 3,689 sq. ft. (342.7 sq m), while still offering ultra-long range of 11,000 nautical miles (20,370 km). This model opens up almost unlimited interior design options to ensure ultimate comfort for long distance travel.
To demonstrate the versatility of the airplane's spacious cabin, BBJ unveiled interior concepts from three leading design firms: Greenpoint Technologies, Jet Aviation, and Unique Aircraft Design. Each concept shows how the BBJ 777X can be transformed to suit the tastes of any VIP customer.

Lockheed Martin y Airbus firman un memorando de acuerdo sobre reabastecimiento aéreo
Madrid, 4 de diciembre de 2018 - Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT) y Airbus han firmado un memorando de acuerdo con el objeto de explorar conjuntamente oportunidades para satisfacer la creciente demanda de reabastecimiento aéreo de los clientes de defensa en EE. UU.
Ambas compañías tienen la intención de ofrecer servicios de repostaje aéreo para abordar posibles deficiencias de capacidad identificadas y para satisfacer las necesidades de la nueva generación de aviones cisterna capaces de operar en los difíciles entornos del futuro espacio de batalla.

Madrid, 4 December 2018 – Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT) and Airbus have signed an agreement to jointly explore opportunities to meet the growing demand for aerial refuelling for US defence customers.
The companies will seek to provide aerial-refuelling services to address any identified capacity shortfall and to meet requirements for the next generation of tankers capable of operating in the challenging environments of the future battlespace.

These may range from ways to support critical near-term air-refuelling needs, such as a fee-for-service structure to conceptualizing the tanker of the future.

Friday, November 30, 2018 — Together with Lufthansa, Brussels Airlines invests in the replacement of seven of its ten A330 long-haul aircraft. Already one aircraft left the airline's fleet. It is the most substantial investment project in the 16-year long history of Brussels Airlines and the first time ever that the airline operates long-haul aircraft that are owned and not leased.
With the new long-haul aircraft, Brussels Airlines will be able to offer its customers even more comfort, with quieter, more efficient and environmentally friendlier planes. Besides new aircraft, the airline is also investing in an entirely new cabin interior for all three travel classes, providing guests an even higher on-board comfort and a best-in-class travel experience on all intercontinental flights to Africa and the North Atlantic.
After a comprehensive study where Brussels Airlines and Lufthansa looked at the current and future intercontinental network of the Brussels based airline, as well as at its capacity need for both passengers and cargo and the available aircraft on the market, it was decided last year to go for A330-300 CEO series. From an economic and operational point of view, this aircraft type is the best fit for Brussels Airlines as it brings many benefits such as a significantly higher range than its current Airbus A330 fleet and a higher maximum take-off weight offering more freight capacity.
While Brussels Airlines is currently flying with different engine types, the 'CEO' aircraft will all be equipped with Rolls Royce Trent 700 engines. This engine type that consumes less fuel and emits less noise and CO2, is already in use at several other airlines of the Lufthansa Group. Also for the Brussels Airlines Maintenance & Engineering Department, this harmonization and standardization is of an added value as it significantly reduces the complexity.
The replacement of seven of its ten A330 aircraft is the most substantial investment made in the 16-year long history of Brussels Airlines. In addition, it's the first time ever that the airline operates its long-haul flights with aircraft that are owned by the Lufthansa Group and not leased.
The very first A330 with tail number OO-SFN successfully left the Brussels Airlines fleet last November 13th. In December, the phase out of OO-SFM is planned, followed by OO-SFO, OO-SFY, OO-SFV, OO-SFW and OO-SFU in the course of 2019 and 2020. The first two new aircraft OO-SFC and OO-SFB have started their operations in June. The refleet program will gradually take place in the months to come and will be finalized by the beginning of 2020.

Italdesign performed a few minutes ago the first test flight of a 1:4 scale model of Pop.Up Next, the modular, multimodal, future mobility concept, developed in collaboration with Airbus and Audi, at the Amsterdam Drone Week, November 27 to 30.
Italdesign world-premieres Pop.Up’s first operational model, inside the exhibition’s flying arena. Once a day, until November 29, the 1:4 scale model will perform a test flight in fully autonomous mode. Capsule and ground module will simulate an on-ground trip to reach the air module; then the capsule disconnects from the ground module, connects to the air module that will fly crossing the 80 meter-length of the arena, to reach another ground module, waiting at the opposite side and then conclude the exhibition.
The main aim of the dynamic scale model is two-fold:
- To provide an objective demonstration that the project which began in 2017 with Pop.Up, and has continued this year with Pop.Up Next, is proceeding as promised and entering the next development phase. More specifically, the primary purpose of this model is to test the base functionality which will allow perfect alignment of the various modules during docking of the capsule with the drone or the ground module.
- Confirmation, strengthening and field validation of the key modularity concept, which is the core of the Pop.Up philosophy. This concept, which falls within Italdesign’s pioneering approach in the search for innovative solutions, makes the Pop.Up project unique within the world of eVTOL (electrical vertical take off & landing) vehicles being developed to meet future urban mobility requirements.
“With this project, which began with Airbus in 2017, we will demonstrate in practical terms that future mobility will no longer be a playing field for individual companies, each operating in their own specific sector, but will rather become the melting point of know-how, technologies and professional expertise from a wide range of sectors – automotive, aerospace, urban planning, social sciences – to name but a few – Jörg Astalosch, CEO of Italdesign, said. “Future mobility, is an as-yet unexplored sector which, as well as the technical challenges of developing the vehicles, will require a lot of work in the sectors of infrastructure, regulations, relations with city municipalities, services… Together with Airbus and Audi, we are convinced that our joint project, Pop.Up, made an important step to find better solutions for urban mobility in megacities”.
In keeping with its tradition as an innovative company and creator of futuristic ideas, Italdesign is taking concrete steps to deal with the problem of future urban mobility, which is already becoming relevant. To do so, it has incorporated a new Mobility Solutions division within its organisation and strategic plan, alongside with the more traditional style, engineering and vehicle-production business units, to operate with 360° approach to future mobility, smart cities and with different means of transportation. La Entidad Nacional de Acreditación (ENAC) ha otorgado al Laboratorio de Monitorado de EMS Brüel & Kjaer la primera acreditación para realizar ensayos de monitorización de los niveles de ruido ambiental en el entorno aeroportuario según la norma ISO 20906, en concreto de los aeropuertos Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas y Barcelona-El Prat, gestionados por AENA. Se trata de una primera acreditación no solo a nivel nacional, sino también internacional, ya que el laboratorio es pionero en desarrollar esta actividad de manera acreditada en todo el mundo.
El ensayo acreditado consiste en determinar el ruido producido por los aviones en el entorno de un aeropuerto conforme a la norma internacional ISO 20906. Para ello, el laboratorio cuenta con una red de estaciones fijas de medida de niveles sonoros y condiciones meteorológicas o TMRs (Terminales de Monitorado de Ruido), que se ubican en puntos estratégicos en las inmediaciones del aeropuerto o en localidades próximas, por las que sobrevuelan los aviones en sus operaciones de despegue y aterrizaje. Estas terminales remiten telemáticamente los resultados de medición para ser recibidos, finalmente, en los servidores de cada aeropuerto.
Este tipo de ensayos acreditados generan un impacto notable en términos de protección medioambiental. María Jesús Ballesteros, Directora Técnica del laboratorio de monitorado de EMS Brüel & Kjaer, explica que "son una herramienta de información pública y vigilancia de los niveles de contaminación acústica producidos por las operaciones aeronáuticas en el entorno de los aeropuertos."
Además, añade, que "la acreditación ha supuesto una garantía en la calidad de los ensayos, avalada por una entidad externa a la propia empresa, lo que supone un aumento en la calidad y la confianza en los resultados para terceras partes."
Garantías de los laboratorios acreditados
La acreditación de ENAC constata la competencia técnica del laboratorio frente a este tipo de ensayos, lo que supone, entre otros, que el laboratorio dispone de personal cualificado, que cuenta con las instalaciones y los equipos necesarios, que estos equipos están calibrados y adecuadamente mantenidos, que sus ensayos o calibraciones se ejecutan utilizando métodos y procedimientos técnicamente válidos, y que su actividad está sometida a un estricto control de calidad.
Todo ello se lo han demostrado a ENAC, el único organismo designado en España para realizar este tipo de evaluaciones, mediante un riguroso proceso de auditoría en el que intervienen expertos técnicos en cada área técnica acreditada y de acuerdo a criterios establecidos y reconocidos internacionalmente.

Binter, of Spain, Will Receive its First E195-E2 in 2019

Embraer announced that Binter Canarias, of Spain, will receive its first E195-E2 jet in the second half of 2019, becoming the first European customer of the E-Jets E2’s largest model. The airline signed a firm order with Embraer for three E195-E2s. The contract also includes purchase rights for two additional aircraft of the same model. This agreement was previously announced as a Letter of Intent (LoI) with an “undisclosed customer” at the Farnborough Air Show 2018, in July. With all options being exercised, the contract has a list price of USD 342 million. The order was included in Embraer’s third quarter backlog of 2018. The airline will configure the aircraft with 132 seats in a very comfortable single-class layout. “Embraer is proud to welcome Binter to the expanding base of E-Jets operators in Europe,” said Martyn Holmes, Vice President, Europe, Russia & Central Asia, Embraer Commercial Aviation. “Embraer’s E2 family is the quietest, cleanest and most fuel efficient next-generation single-aisle aircraft family in the world. Embraer successfully completes KC-390 troop unloading and evacuation tests

São José dos Campos, Brazil, November, 21, 2018 – Embraer successfully completed the troop unloading, evacuation by hatch and evacuation tests through the front and rear doors of the KC-390 multi-mission medium airlift recently held at Brasília Air Force Base, in Brazil. The tests complied with the requirements for achieving the Final Operational Capability (FOC), which is the subject of the final military certification of the aircraft, due to occur in the last quarter of 2019. The tests were supported by the Brazilian Air Force as well as the Brazilian Army and involved approximately 370 military personnel. “By completing this important stage of the testing campaign toward final military certification with excellence, the KC-390 demonstrates compliance with the industry's most stringent operating and safety standards,” said Walter Pinto Junior, vice-president of the KC-390 Program. Embraer KC-390 is a tactical airlift designed to set new standards in its category while presenting the lowest life-cycle cost of the market. It can perform a variety of missions such as cargo and troop transport, troop and cargo air delivery, aerial refueling, search and rescue and forest fire fighting.
Unmanned Systems: CODE Demonstrates Autonomy and Collaboration with Minimal Human Commands

In a recent test series at Yuma Proving Ground in Arizona, DARPA’s Collaborative Operations in Denied Environment (CODE) program demonstrated the ability of CODE-equipped Unmanned Aerial Systems (UASs) to adapt and respond to unexpected threats in an anti-access area denial (A2AD) environment. The UASs efficiently shared information, cooperatively planned and allocated mission objectives, made coordinated tactical decisions, and collaboratively reacted to a dynamic, high-threat environment with minimal communication.
The air vehicles initially operated with supervisory mission commander interaction. When communications were degraded or denied, CODE vehicles retained mission plan intent to accomplish mission objectives without live human direction. The ability for CODE-enabled vehicles to interact when communications are degraded is an important step toward the program goal to conduct dynamic, long-distance engagements of highly mobile ground and maritime targets in contested or denied battlespace.
“The test series expanded on previously demonstrated approaches to low bandwidth collaborative sensing and on-board planning. It demonstrated the ability to operate in more challenging scenarios, where both communications and GPS navigation were denied for extended periods,” said Scott Wierzbanowski, DARPA program manager for CODE.
During the three-week ground and flight test series in a live/virtual/constructive (LVC) environment, up to six live and 24 virtual UASs served as surrogate strike assets, receiving mission objectives from a human mission commander. The systems then autonomously collaborated to navigate, search, localize, and engage both pre-planned and pop-up targets protected by a simulated Integrated Air Defense System (IADS) in communications- and GPS-denied scenarios.
“The demonstrated behaviors are the building blocks for an autonomous team that can collaborate and adjust to mission requirements and a changing environment,” said Wierzbanowski.
The DARPA team also has advanced the infrastructure necessary to support further development, integration, and testing of CODE as it transitions to future autonomous systems.
Achievements include incorporation of third-party autonomy algorithms into the current software build, the creation of a government repository and lab test environment for the CODE algorithms, and the successful demonstration of the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory White Force Network capability to provide constructive threats and effects in an LVC test environment.
CODE’s scalable capabilities could greatly enhance the survivability, flexibility, and effectiveness of existing air platforms, as well as reduce the development times and costs of future systems.
Further development of CODE and associated infrastructure will continue under DARPA until the conclusion of the program in spring 2019, followed by full transition of the CODE software repository to Naval Air Systems Command.
