Domino’s Pizza Enterprises Ltd. has joined forces with U.S.-based self-proclaimed “flying robot” operator Flirtey for the world’s first commercial drone pizza delivery, the fast-food company said Thursday. Domino’s will start testing the service in New Zealand later this year and is also looking at using drones in Australia, Belgium, France, the Netherlands, Japan and Germany.

“We’ve always said that it doesn’t make sense to have a two-ton machine delivering a two-kilogram order,” Domino’s Group Chief Executive Officer Don Meij said in a statement. “The reach that a drone offers is far greater than other current options which are restricted by traffic, roads and sheer distance.”

China unveils Mars probe

China unveiled the design of its Mars probe on Aug 23. The Mars probe will consist of three parts－the orbiter, the lander and the rover, according to design illustrations released by the China National Space Administration. The nation plans to send an unmanned probe to Mars to orbit and land on the planet around 2020, Liu Jizhong, deputy head of China’s Mars exploration program, said at a ceremony to reveal the probe’s design. http://english.gov.cn/news/top_news/2016/08/24/content_281475424523694.htm

Airlander 10: World’s largest aircraft crash lands second flight

Airlander 10's second test flight, which took place this morning, ended with the giant airship nosediving into the ground. The cockpit was damaged, but Hybrid Air Vehicles says the crew are "safe and well."

HAV told Ars that the flight lasted for 100 minutes and that it "completed all the planned tasks." HAV said the incident was not an unplanned dealtitudinal craft-terrafirma conflict, but rather "a heavy landing" as the craft returned to Cardington Airfield. Full article in:
