No fear of C919 for a generation

The first COMAC C919 was rolled out of the factory over the weekend, China’s mainline entry into the fiercely competitive arena now “owned” by the Airbus-Boeing duopoly.
Although the two giants each has said China is the next competitor they will have to face, the Big Two have nothing to worry about for a generation to come.

Here’s why. http://leehamnews.com/2015/11/04/no-fear-of-c919-for-a-generation/

ITP strengthens its presence in Asia Pacific with the opening of a new representative office in Singapore

ITP has opened a new representative office in Singapore with the aim of strengthening its presence in the MRO (Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul) market in Asia Pacific.

ITP has an established portfolio of clients in the region, including airlines like Cebu Pacific, Lion Air, Asian Wings and Yangon Airways. From its new office in Singapore, the company will have a closer interface with current clients and thus contributing to a better and more efficient customer support. Also, leveraging Singapore's status as a key aviation industry hub, ITP will reinforce its commercial reach in the region.

Asia Pacific is the area with the largest number of Pratt & Whitney Canada's PW100 engine operators, for which ITP is a Designated Overhaul Facility (DOF), covering all the large family models. The PW100 turboprop engine is the proven airline benchmark for low fuel consumption on the shorter routes of 350 miles or less, and is experiencing rapid growth among Asia's regional airline operators. Furthermore, PW100 engines in Asia Pacific currently amount to 25% of the worldwide fleet and are expected to reach 33% of the global market by 2025.

José Luis Zubeldia, Head of the ITP In Service Support business unit, says: "The new Singapore office will contribute to building and maintaining a closer relation with our current clients. It will therefore help us to improve customer support, and also put us in a better position to pursue new business opportunities in the area, leveraging our leading position in the regional aircraft MRO market with the PW100."

ITP, jointly held by Sener Aeronáutica (53.125%) and Rolls-Royce (46.875%), includes among its activities such areas as Design, Research & Development, Manufacturing and Casting, as well as the Assembly and Testing of aeronautical engines and gas turbines. It is also an official maintenance service provider for the majority of the world's currently active engine manufacturers. ITP has 17 production centres in Spain, Great Britain, Malta, the USA, India and Mexico, and a staff of 3065 workers.

This Super Glass Material Is Almost As Strong As Steel

As engineers continue to push what is possible for our buildings and gadgets, so too do they find new ways to tweak the properties of glass. Typically, glass is produced by heating minerals to a high temperature then letting them cool, but much of the glass that glistens on the sides of skyscrapers and makes up the screens on smartphones and tablets is made via special production processes that strengthen the material by adding metal. Now a team of Japanese researchers has found a way to add a version of aluminum to the glass using a novel production method, according to a study published last month in Scientific Reports.
