First Airbus Helicopters final assembly line in China to be set up in cooperation with Sino-German Ecopark

  • Historic partnership paves the way for the establishment of an H135 final assembly line and acomprehensive industrial hub in China.
  • Sino-German Ecopark, located in Qingdao, Shandong province, makes commitment to acquire100 H135s to be produced locally over the next 10 years for Chinese general aviation needs.
  • Airbus Helicopters consolidates its position as the leading helicopter manufacturer in theChinese market which will need 3000-5000 helicopters in the next 20 years.

H135's final assembly line

A Letter of Intent (LOI) for the establishment of a final assembly line (FAL) of Airbus Helicopters’ H135 in China was signed today by Yao Yixian, the Sino-German Ecopark Deputy General Manager and Wolfgang Schoder, Airbus Helicopters Deutschland CEO in Hefei, Anhui Province.

Chinese Premier Li Keqiang and the visiting German Chancellor Angela Merkel witnessed the signing ceremony. This LOI also includes a commitment by the Chinese party for 100 H135s to be assembled in the future FAL in China over the next 10 years.

Today´s agreement is a major step forward for Airbus Helicopters in China – a country which is becoming the world’s largest market for helicopters and in which the European rotorcraft manufacturer keeps increasing its footprint. An ecosystem will be developed with the Chinese partners - it will include the country’s first Airbus Helicopters final assembly line, a sales office for locally-assembled H135s to be distributed domestically, as well as maintenance, repair, overhaul and training capabilities to support the Chinese H135 fleet.

This powerful industrial hub will ensure a long-term presence for Airbus Helicopters in China.

"The signing of this LOI is another milestone in the long lasting cooperation between Airbus Helicopters and China which started 40 years ago,” said Norbert Ducrot, President of Airbus Helicopters China. “Airbus Helicopters is leading the Chinese helicopter market with a civil market share of 40% today. This collaboration is a significant development that will help us to further increase our market share, while providing proven and certified solutions to accompany the progressive opening of Chinese skies to helicopter operations.”

The H135 is one of the most popular light twin-engine helicopters in China currently, performing mainly helicopter emergency medical services (HEMS) and police missions. With the expected increase in civil and parapublic services demand for helicopters as China’s general aviation market continues to expand, the set up of the H135 FAL is a timely development.

Airbus Helicopters has delivered nearly 1,200 helicopters of the H135-family to customers around the globe, which have logged more than 3 million flight hours. One-quarter of this total fleet is deployed for HEMS duties. In addition to other Airbus Helicopters range operating air ambulance missions, the company leads the segment with 60% market share, which includes the top 10 HEMS operators around the world.

Aeroscraft ML866 (66-ton payload) Airship Reaches System Level ‘Design Freeze’ Phase

WORLD’S LARGEST AIRCRAFT, REVOLUTIONARY SELF-BALLASTING AEROSCRAFT CARGO AIRSHIP, NOW IN DEVELOPMENT IN CALIFORNIA

The Aeroscraft Corporation (Aeros) today revealed another milestone completed in the development of the world’s first Vertical Takeoff and Landing (VTOL) capable heavy-lift cargo airship, the Aeroscraft, featuring independence from external ballast. Following the engineering scale down prototype "Dragon Dream" phase of the program, the team at Aeros is now entering the design freeze phase for the ML866 (66-ton) Aeroscraft cargo airship. Aeros is currently developing main component and test articles for the patented buoyancy management system known as COSH, or control-of-static-heaviness, as well as structural components for the operational Aeroscraft with 66-ton payload. The advanced aircraft now taking shape is unique in terms of its capability, size, cargo handling and propulsion, featuring infrastructure independence with vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) capability at max payload. COSH is Aeros’ proprietary and patented internal buoyancy management technology, which was successfully demonstrated in 2013 as part of DoD ‘Project Pelican’ with the technology demonstration vehicle measuring approximately 1:2 scale, known as ‘Dragon Dream.’

Aeros is planning to complete the configuration ‘design freeze’ for the 66-ton payload capable Aeroscraft by end of 2015 as part of fleet development efforts now underway to satisfy global demand for the vehicle’s new logistics capabilities. “We are excited to reveal production is underway on the 555-ft long ML866, and committed to achieving FAA operational certification for the first deployable Aeroscraft in approximately five years,” explains Igor Pasternak, CEO of Aeroscraft Corporation.

The Aeroscraft is a new heavy-lift, variable-buoyancy cargo airship featuring an onboard buoyancy management system, rigid structure, vertical takeoff and landing performance, and operational abilities at low speed, in hover, and from unprepared surfaces. Aeros’ unique and patented COSH technology breakthrough permits airships to efficiently address global cargo/logistics applications for the first time. This new capability will dramatically decrease the time and cost for delivering large ‘project’ and container cargo around the world, especially to austere areas with no pre-positioned infrastructure.
