IL-112 Russia's New Military Transport Plane Set to Make Its Maiden Flight in 2017



The Ilyushin Il-112, Russia's brand new light military transport plane, is slated to make its maiden flight in 2017, said Yury Borisov, a Russian Deputy Minister of Defense.



The aircraft's mass production is expected to be launched in 2019.

NASA selects Tecnam P2006T for electric powered multi engined aircraft



NASA SELECTS TECNAM P2006T TWIN FOR ‘LEAPTECH’ ELECTRIC POWERED PROPULSION TECHNOLOGIES EVALUATION AND FLIGHT TEST PROGRAMME



Tecnam today (24/3/15) announced that NASA has selected the Tecnam P2006T twin as the airframe on which it will evaluate the potential of ‘LEAPtech’ (Leading Edge Asynchronous Technology), with the aim of developing safer, more energy efficient, lower operating cost and greener General Aviation aircraft.

LEAPTech is a key element of NASA’s plan to help a significant portion of the general aircraft industry transition to electrical propulsion within the next decade.

NASA will fit an experimental 31-foot aircraft wing with 18 electric motors placed along the leading edge onto a Tecnam P2006T aircraft frame. The wing is made of carbon composite, while the electric engines are powered by lithium iron phosphate batteries. The wing and electric motors will both manufactured and integrated on the P2006T airframe by the US based companies ESAero and Joby Aviation.

Researchers hope to fly the modified Tecnam P2006T piloted X-plane within the next couple years, enabling NASA engineers to easily compare the performance of the X-plane version with the standard Tecnam P2006T Twin.

The Tecnam P2006T Twin has already established itself as the aircraft of choice by many of the world’s leading Flight Training Organisations. Bringing together Italian innovation, engineering and design flair, the P2006T has also been modified and currently undertakes a wide range of aerial missions including for surveillance, observation, surveying, aerial mapping and many other special mission tasks.

Tecnam opened its 21,000 sq ft North American facility at Sebring, FL. In 2014.
The Sebring facility is not only a showroom and delivery center for new Tecnam aircraft but is also an airframe maintenance and training center, as well as the parts warehouse for all North American Tecnam owners.

Tecnam delivers first P Twenty-Ten to the Middle East

Tecnam announced today the delivery of the first P Twenty-Ten to the Middle East.

P Twenty-Ten ‘A7-TBA’ was delivered directly from Tecnam’s Capua, Italy production facility to Qatar based ‘Aviation Home’ at Al Khor Airport. The ferry flight routing included stops in Brindisi, Corfu, Crete, Alexandria, Cairo, Hurgada, Madina, Riyadh and Doha in just 25 flight hours.

The landing on Crete’s runway 030 was achieved in a rain storm, wind 350 28 knots, gusting 40 knots.

P Twenty-Ten ‘A7-TBA’ joins a wide range of Tecnam aircraft already in service with Aviation Home, Tecnam’s dealer for both the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. These include the Tecnam Astore, P2006T Twin and a number of P200JF’s.

The ‘P Twenty Ten’ brings together an advanced technology all carbon fibre fuselage with a metal wing and stabilator/rudder based on the best of TECNAM’s recent P2006T Twin and P2008 experience. This single engine, 4 seat aeroplane has been eagerly anticipated by the General Aviation community.

Professor Luigi Pascale, Tecnam’s award winning President and Head of Design, is especially proud of creating the P2010. “It was 50 years ago that we originally introduce a four-seater single engine high wing aircraft. El grupo Iberia estrena una temporada de verano repleta de nuevas rutas

  • Iberia, Iberia Express y la franquicia Iberia Regional Air Nostrum inauguran 39 nuevas rutas e incorporan 19 destinos adicionales a la red de grupo
  • Las aerolíneas aumentan la oferta en otras 22 rutas



Se inicia la temporada de verano para el transporte aéreo y el Grupo Iberia presenta más novedades que nunca. El grupo, incluyendo la franquicia Iberia Regional Air Nostrum, abre 39 nuevas rutas que suponen incorporar 19 destinos adicionales a la red. Además, las compañías aumentan su oferta, bien en vuelos o en asientos, en 22 de sus rutas actuales.

La Habana, la estrella del largo radio

En la red de largo radio esta temporada Iberia estrena tres destinos, La Habana, a partir del 1 de junio, y Cali y Medellín desde el 3 de julio. A la Habana vuelve la compañía tras un paréntesis de algo más dos años, mientras que Cali y Medellín se incorporan a la red de la aerolínea por primera vez.

Esta temporada también se cuenta como novedad los vuelos a Montevideo y Santo Domingo, que se inauguraron el pasado 1 de septiembre. Precisamente en el caso de Santo Domingo, la compañía aumenta la oferta de cinco vuelos semanales a un vuelo diario a partir de este miércoles.

Novedades por toda Europa

Europa es el mercado que presenta más novedades, en especial en Italia, Reino Unido, Francia, Alemania y Portugal. Iberia e Iberia Express inauguran vuelos a 5 nuevos destinos de Italia, Florencia y Nápoles de forma permanente, y Palermo, Catania y Verona en los meses de verano. Además, aumenta la oferta en las rutas con Venecia.

En Alemania, Iberia inaugura los vuelos directos a Hamburgo y el grupo aumenta la oferta con Berlín, Frankfurt y Dusseldorf.

En Francia, se inaguran vuelos con el aeropuerto de Paris Charles de Gaulle desde Madrid, operados por Iberia Express, y desde Santander, por Iberia Regional Air Nostrum.

Iberia Express por su parte inicia vuelos a Lyon, Niza y Nantes complementando la oferta de Iberia Regional Air Nostrum, y de Tenerife a Lyon. Iberia inaugura vuelos directos La Coruña-París, e Iberia Regional Air Nostrum lanza vuelos de temporada en las rutas Madrid-Lourdes, Madrid-Perpiñán, Ibiza-Perpiñán y Alicante-Carcassona. Finalmente Iberia aumenta su oferta con París Orly.

También son numerosas las novedades en el Reino Unido. Iberia Express va a inaugurar vuelos directos desde Madrid con Edimburgo, Mánchester y Londres Gatwitck, además de vuelos a Londres Heathrow desde Tenerife, Gran Canaria y Mallorca. Air Nostrum inaugura hoy los vuelos entre Vigo y Londres Luton.

También con Portugal se estrenan novedades. Iberia e Iberia Regional ofrecerán vuelos estacionales a Funchal y Faro respectivamente, además de aumentar la oferta con Lisboa.

Budapest es otro de los destinos de verano ofrecido por Iberia e Iberia Express. Y en España, la ruta Tenerife-Asturias por esta última.

Como todos los años, además, Iberia recupera sus vuelos directos con Los Angeles, Boston, San Petersburgo, Zagreb y Dubrovnik, Iberia Regional con Split e Iberia Express con Ibiza, entre otros.

Airbus Helicopters names Stéphane Chery as its Head of Digital Strategy



Stéphane Chery has been appointed as Airbus Helicopters’ Head of Digital Strategy, reporting to Clive Schley, Head of Strategy and Marketing. He will be responsible for implementing the company’s vision and top objectives in this domain, enabling new culture and behaviors governing digital technologies across the company.

Airbus Helicopters’ creation of the Digital Strategy position underscores the significance of digitalization in all aspects of the company’s operations – from design, development and production to customer support and services – along with Airbus Group’s top priority on digital technologies in 2015.

“The evolution of digital capabilities is a key element of Airbus Helicopters’ global transformation plan, which is focused on better serving and satisfying our customers,” explained Airbus Helicopters’ President & CEO Guillaume Faury. “Embedded in the Strategy department, Stéphane will be capitalizing on and further fostering the digital initiatives we have already implemented.”

Airbus Group delivers first new UH-72A Lakota for Army initial-entry trainer mission



Airbus Group yesterday delivered to the U.S. Army the first UH-72A Lakota helicopter to come off the Airbus Helicopters Inc. production line configured for the Lakota’s latest mission, as the service’s initial-entry training helicopter.

The aircraft will join seven Lakotas previously in the Army inventory that have already been modified to the training configuration and fielded to Fort Rucker, in preparation for the Lakota’s formal introduction into the training curriculum in early fiscal 2016. Ultimately, Army plans call for an initial-entry rotary wing training fleet of 187 Lakotas, made up of a mix of new deliveries and already in-service aircraft reconfigured for the training mission.

To date, the Department of Defense has ordered 411 Lakotas, 400 for the U.S. Army. With today’s delivery, 332 completed aircraft have been delivered – all on time and on budget – from the Airbus Helicopters Inc. production facility in Columbus, Miss.

“For a program to succeed in the current budget environment, affordability and reliable program performance must accompany mission flexibility,” said Allan McArtor, Airbus Group Chairman and CEO. “Since awarding the contract in 2006, the Army has managed this program unfailingly on cost and on schedule, and we’re proud to see that record continue as we deliver the latest configuration of this versatile, multi-mission aircraft.”

“We’re making the necessary important investments to ensure a successful transition of the Lakota into training operations at Fort Rucker,” said Marc Paganini, President and CEO of Airbus Helicopters Inc. “We’re honored that future Army aviators will begin their flying careers at the controls of the Lakota.”

The Lakota was competitively selected in 2006 to fill a wide variety of roles for the Active Army and Army National Guard, including search and rescue, medical evacuation, border security, command and control, VIP transport, general utility and training. Army National Guard units, operating UH-72As equipped with the Security & Support Mission Equipment Package, are deployed supporting Customs and Border Protection missions along the U.S.-Mexico border. The Lakota is also operated in a training role by the U.S. Naval Test Pilot School.

The Royal Thai Army has ordered UH-72As through the U.S. government’s Foreign Military Sales program. These Lakotas are scheduled to be fielded to Thailand within the coming months. Airbus Helicopters is marketing the UH-72A to other allied nations with requirements for a modern, low cost multi-mission helicopter.

A modern, twin-engine aircraft, the UH-72A is a powerful, stable, and agile platform with a glass cockpit that is compatible with night vision goggles. The Lakota is single-pilot Instrument Flight Rules certified. It has the lowest cost to buy, own and operate of any U.S. military helicopter in production, and is built in Columbus, Miss., by a workforce that is 43 percent U.S. military veterans.

Germanwings "No Right to Rule Out Other Hypotheses"

As if awaking from a stunned stupor, (incapacitation with breathing perhaps?) the Bureau d'Enquêtes et d'Analyses, the French air safety investigatory authority, has suddenly spoken. After six days in which French law enforcement has all but wrapped up the case of the crash of Germanwings Flight 9525, the spokeswoman for the BEA has told The New York Times, her agency's ire was focused on the shocking leak of the content of the cockpit voice recorder, but had no statement about the appropriateness of concluding the cause of the accident without recovering crucial pieces of evidence.


That wise disclaimer was left for Jean-Pierre Michel an official with the judicial police who, in one of the only moderate statements to emerge from this fiasco told the Times, “we have no right today to rule out other hypotheses including the mechanical hypotheses, as long as we haven’t proved that the plane had no problems.” 

Mexico becomes 1st customer for C295 with winglets



Thanks to the winglets, the C295W will be able to transport more payload to a longer distance with around a 4% fuel savings, even in hot and high conditions.

The Mexican Navy has specified the winglets for two C295s, for which the order was already announced, and winglets will be standard for all new C295s ordered from now on.

“The advantage of the winglets in hot and high conditions means that the development of the C295W is a key step for our highly successful light and medium transport family. And it is a particular pleasure to deliver this first aircraft to Mexico, which already has the biggest Airbus Defence and Space transport fleet in Latin America,” said Antonio Rodríguez Barberán, Head of Commercial for Airbus Defence and Space in Latin America.

“The C295 has served us well for many years. We had some concerns about operating a mixed fleet of aircraft with and without winglets, but when we studied the enhanced performance of this new version it was clear that it would bring very significant operating benefits for us that could not be ignored”, said Rear Admiral from Mexican Navy, José María García Macedo.

 Iberia ha estrenado en Marzo una nueva e innovadora aplicación, "Vuela por el mundo", que permite disfrutar del placer de volar desde el ordenador.

Boston, Los Ángeles, Estambul, Londres, París, Florencia, Hamburgo, Tel Aviv… El usuario puede volar a todos los destinos de Iberia desde el ordenador. Tan sólo tiene que entrar en http://flight.iberia.com/, elegir el destino y volar. Se recomienda sincronizar el móvil y utilizar auriculares para mejorar la experiencia de vuelo.

Hay ocho cámaras que otorgan libertad de movimiento y una visualización completa del avión, de todos los ángulos posibles, y todo ello con un altísimo nivel de realismo logrado gracias a la tecnología webGL. Las nubes, el cielo, los sombreados, el sonido 3D de los motores… todo está creado con un gran realismo que hace que la experiencia de vuelo sea auténtica. Incluso se respeta la luz del día, que varía en función de la hora de despegue del vuelo.

Esta aplicación permite hacer fotos y compartirlas en redes sociales, o guardarlas como fondo de escritorio.

Carbures aumenta su capacidad productiva en aeronáutica

Carbures aumenta su capacidad productiva en aeronáutica

 

  • ·         Carbures amplía su capacidad de producción en línea con el ramp up, o incremento progresivo de fabricación, de sus principales clientes del sector aeronáutico.
  • ·         Adquiere una tecnología que permite multiplicar por diez la velocidad del recanteo de piezas, la parte final del proceso industrial de fabricación de piezas de avión en fibra de carbono: cuando antes se hacía un recanteo, prácticamente artesanal de piezas, ahora la nueva tecnología permitirá hacer diez piezas en el mismo tiempo y con una mayor precisión milimétrica.
  • ·         La nueva tecnología está instalada en la planta de Jerez de la frontera, la mayor del Grupo en aeronáutica.

 

. Carbures aumenta su velocidad crucero en los procesos de fabricación en el sector aeronáutico. La Compañía ha adquirido una tecnología denominada BR25, un centro de mecanizado que le permite multiplicar por diez la cadencia industrial en la fase final del proceso de fabricación, que consiste en el corte y recanteo de las piezas. Esta nueva tecnología permite a Carbures atender la creciente demanda de pedidos que tiene en el sector aeronáutico y que viaja en paralelo al ramp up, incremento progresivo de fabricación, de sus clientes aeronáuticos.

 

La BR25 ha sido diseñada por la compañía EPMM, especialmente para el mecanizado de piezas de fibra de carbono, que requieren de unos estrictos requerimientos en base a los actuales programas aeronáuticos. Esta tecnología puede alcanzar una aceleración en los ejes lineales de hasta 3 m/sg² y una velocidad en vacío de hasta 70 m/min. Es decir, que permite multiplicar por diez la velocidad de producción de piezas en esta última fase del proceso industrial.

Las previsiones de fabricación del sector aeronáutico registran unos incrementos notables. Las flechas de los gráficos de fabricación apuntan al cielo. Los gigantes del sector, como Airbus, tienen previsto incrementar la fabricación de aviones. Por ejemplo, Airbus prevé fabricar cerca de un centenar de su nuevo avión A-320 en 2016, y la cifra se dispara hasta los 540 en 2018.

 

Carbures ha adquirido esta nueva tecnología para satisfacer el incremento previsto por los grandes fabricantes en la cadena industrial aeronáutica relativa a los materiales compuestos como la fibra de carbono. El ramp up de los grandes fabricantes tiene su reflejo en los datos de facturación previstos por la Compañía en su plan de negocio 15-17. Así, Carbures prevé unos ingresos de 35,5 millones de euros sólo en el sector aeronáutico para este año, lo que supone el 30 por ciento del total de facturación prevista para el ejercicio actual (118,5 millones). La previsión de los ingresos en aeronáutica de la empresa, siempre desde un enfoque conservador, aplicando las cifras provenientes de la cartera de proyectos ya firmados a día de hoy, crecen en 2017 hasta los 161 millones de euros, de los que el 35,4 por ciento, 57 millones, se anotan en el área de actividad de la industria aeronáutica.

 

"Seguimos trabajando en el cumplimiento de nuestra hoja de ruta, cuyo foco está puesto ahora en seguir creciendo como compañía. En esta nueva fase, nos esforzamos por impulsar el crecimiento orgánico de Carbures, y esta tecnología responde a este objetivo estratégico", afirma el Consejero Delegado del Grupo, José María Tarragó. "Hemos puesto todo nuestro empeño en dar una cobertura completa a nuestros clientes y para ello adquirimos una tecnología punta en la fabricación de piezas de avión en fibra, que nos posiciona a la cabeza de esta industria en España, en los polos aeronáuticos sur y centro, y, probablemente, del europeo", añade Tarragó.

Segunda Jornada Internacional Mujer y Aeronáutica: Mujeres que llegan muy alto

Por segundo año consecutivo se ha celebrado la segunda Jornada Internacional Mujer y Aeronáutica, en la que han participado altas directivas y responsables de empresas del sector aeroespacial como Boeing, Airbus, GMV, CESA, Inaer, Agencia Espacial Europea,  los colegios profesionales COIAE y COIT y el Ejercito del Aire.

 

Las mujeres en España representan al 60 por ciento de los licenciados y el 45 por ciento del mercado laboral, pero al llegar a la alta dirección esta cifra desciende al 10 por ciento. ¿Cómo es posible romper el techo de cristal? El evento que se ha celebrado esta mañana en la Fundación Telefónica de Madrid, ha tenido como objetivo central el análisis del papel de la mujer en la industria aeroespacial y transporte aéreo, y la investigación en este sector así como los principales obstáculos y dificultades que deben afrontar para el desarrollo de su trabajo y conciliación de su vida personal.

 

La jornada ha estado dividida en dos mesas de debate, y ha contado con la presencia de mujeres emprendedoras y referentes de la industria aeronáutica. En la primera estuvieron Beatriz Riofrío, Responsable de estrategia de aviones regionales y derivados militares de Airbus, Nadia Curiel, Capitán del Grupo 43 del Ejército del Aire, Estefanía Matesanz Decana del COIAE, Begoña Rodríguez, Jefe programa de desarrollo deCESA y Lorena Rodrigo, Directora de comunicación del Grupo Inaer. La segunda mesa en la que se ha debatido sobre la progresión profesional de la mujer en le ámbito científico ha contado con Mónica Martínez, Presidenta de GMV,  Maite Trujillo, Ingeniera de sistemas de la ESA (Agencia Espacial Europea), Silvia Lazcano Responsable de investigación de y Tecnología en Airbus Operations, Nieves lapeña, directora técnico del departamento de pila de combustible y materiales del Boeing BR & T Europe, Andrea Iglesias miembro de la junta directiva del COIT.

Por su parte, Laura Ruiz deGalarreta, Directora General de la Mujer de la Comunidad de Madrid, ha inaugurado el evento, que ha destacado: " la importancia de una jornada de este tipo para dar visibilidad a mujeres que destacan en actividades tan importantes como la investigación científica o la alta tecnología" . la directora general ha pedido además, un minuto de silencio por las victimas del accidente GemanWings, "en un escenario tan aeronáutico como el de hoy".

Una de las intervenciones adestacar ha sido la de Samantha Cristoforetti, astronauta de la Agencia Europea del Espacio (ESA) que ha irrumpido en medio de la jornada, en un mensaje grabado especialmente para los asistentes en lso que desde la Estación Espacial Internacional, ha animado a hombre, mujeres y jóvenes, a elegir un itinerario profesional relacionado con la ciencia y la tecnología, describiendo su maravillosa experiencia en el espacio.

 

Si hay un punto en el que todas coinciden es, precisamente, la importancia clave de la inversión de las empresas en políticas internas que favorezcan la diversidad de género. Así,Beatriz Riofrío destacaba que "la diversidad de género es fuente de riqueza en las organizaciones" y Nieves Lapeña, Responsable del departamento de pila de combustible y materiales en Boeing R&T Europe, que "la capacidad profesional no depende del género".

Siemens develops world-record electric motor for aircraft

Siemens researchers have developed a new type of electric motor that, with a weight of just 50 kilograms, delivers a continuous output of about 260 kilowatts – five times more than comparable drive systems. The motor has been specially designed for use in aircraft. Thanks to its record-setting power-to-weight ratio, larger aircraft with takeoff weights of up to two tons will now be able to use electric drives for the first time.

To implement the world-record motor, Siemens' experts scrutinized all the components of previous motors and optimized them up to their technical limits. New simulation techniques and sophisticated lightweight construction enabled the drive system to achieve a unique weight-to-performance ratio of five kilowatts (kW) per kilogram (kg). The electric motors of comparable strength that are used in industrial applications deliver less than one kW per kg. The performance of the drive systems used in electric vehicles is about two kW per kg. Since the new motor delivers its record-setting performance at rotational speeds of just 2,500 revolutions per minute, it can drive propellers directly, without the use of a transmission. "This innovation will make it possible to build series hybrid-electric aircraft with four or more seats," said Frank Anton, Head of eAircraft at Siemens Corporate Technology, the company's central research unit. The motor is scheduled to begin flight-testing before the end of 2015. In the next step, the Siemens researchers will boost output further. "We're convinced that the use of hybrid-electric drives in regional airliners with 50 to 100 passengers is a real medium-term possibility," said Anton.

In 2013, Siemens, Airbus and Diamond Aircraft successfully flight-tested a series hybrid-electric drive in a DA36 E-Star 2 motor glider for the first time. The test aircraft had a power output of 60 kW.

A scientist at Wichita State University has developed new virtual tests to analyze how airplanes behave during bird strikes, officials at the university said on Tuesday.

The innovation could save aerospace companies a lot of money over time because virtual testing will reduce the need for some expensive actual tests where they smash cockpit windows and airplane wings, said Gerardo Olivares, who created the software tools and methods.

Airbus Defence and Space in UK is now producing its first space qualified aluminium 3D printed components after a two year research and development programme under the National Space Technology Programme, through Innovate UK (formerly the Technology Strategy Board) and the UK Space Agency.

The 3D printed components being developed by the UK team are part of a programme that is now able to introduce components that cannot be manufactured using conventional technology. This includes a structural bracket for Eurostar E3000 telecommunications satellites manufactured from aluminium alloy. It is a single piece laser melted part weighing 35% less than the previous bracket which comprises four parts and 44 rivets. The additive layer manufactured (ALM) bracket is also 40% stiffer than the previous manufactured component, and does not result in waste generated by conventional machining.

The bracket is for mounting the telemetry and telecommand (TMTC) antennas onto the satellite, and has successfully completed flight qualification testing. It is ready to be flown on a forthcoming satellite.

Amy Glover, Senior Spacecraft Structures Engineer responsible for the project said: “Producing the first flight qualified ALM component is a major milestone and the result of two years of great teamwork funded by Innovate UK in partnership with our suppliers. Through developing and proving the design and manufacturing process, which significantly reduces the testing required, we can now look at what other opportunities there are for ALM components that will be lighter and quicker to manufacture.”

The ALM bracket was manufactured for Airbus Defence and Space by 3T RPD Ltd, a leading production Additive Manufacturing company based in Newbury.

Airbus Defence and Space is continuing with its implementation plans for ALM waveguides, heat pipes, propulsion components, secondary structures and tanks.
