An Overview of Hybrid Aircraft and the Airlander [feedly]

An Overview of Hybrid Aircraft and the Airlander
// Royal Aeronautical News

YOU CAN LISTEN TO THIS NAMED LECTURE BELOW, VISIT THE SOCIETY'S 'SOUNDCLOUD', OR SUBSCRIBE FOR FREE ON ITUNES

This lecture provides an overview of Hybrid Aircraft and the Airlander outlining how it combines the best of aerodynamic and aerostatic lift.

Chris and Andy explain why this green and innovative form of flying is so ground-breaking. Combining new capabilities, performance and green credentials is becoming essential to be competitive in the aircraft market. This requires engineering innovation and a good deal of lateral thinking - this is exactly what Hybrid Air Vehicles has done with the Airlander.

The Airlander combines the best of aeroplanes, helicopters, hovercraft and airship design to produce the largest, and one of the greenest and most innovative aircraft currently available. The result is an aircraft that can fly for over 5 days straight, take off and land vertically from virtually anywhere and will eventually be able to carry over 50 tonnes of cargo with stunning fuel consumption characteristics.

About the speakers:

Chris Daniels, Head of Partnerships and Communication, Hybrid Air Vehicles

A former British Army Parachute Regiment Officer, Chris has subsequently had many years of experience developing business in a range of industries. Most recently Chris was Head of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games Activation at Lloyds Banking Group, and has worked at Hybrid Air Vehicles for the past year creating a communications strategy and developing partnerships, whilst relearning physics and engineering principles!

Chris has a mathematics degree from Oxford University and an MBA from IESE Business School in Barcelona. He was awarded a Flying Scholarship by the RAF aged 17, and has kept a lifelong interest in aviation ever since.
