Lost Spitfires To Return Home
Lost Spitfires To Return Home: Treasured Warbirds Discovered In Burma Talk about your buried treasure... Twenty iconic Supermarine Spitfire aircraft will be returning home to the UK soon now that they've been found buried 40 feet underground in Burma. The discovery was made in February by David Cundall, 62 - a British farmer and patriot who spent 15 years searching for the missing aircraft. Since then, Prime Minister David Cameron has stepped in to resolve political and trade entanglements that might have prevented their return. It's believed the 20 planes will be in near perfect condition as they were buried in their shipping containers waxed, wrapped in greased paper, and with their joints tarred.

Garuda Indonesia orders 11 more A330s
Aircraft are key element in fleet modernisation programme
Garuda Indonesia, the national carrier of Indonesia, has placed a firm order with Airbus for 11 more A330-300 widebody aircraft. The contract was signed today in Jakarta by Emirsyah Satar, President & CEO, Garuda Indonesia and Tom Williams, Executive Vice President, Programmes, Airbus, in the presence of Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and visiting British Prime Minister David Cameron.
The order is the third to be placed by Garuda Indonesia for the A330 since July 2010, with the carrier now having a total of 21 aircraft on firm order for future delivery. All the aircraft will be powered by Rolls-Royce Trent 700 engines.
Garuda Indonesia has chosen the latest extended range 235 tonne maximum take-off weight variant of the A330-300. The carrier will operate the aircraft with a premium two class layout on services from its hubs in Jakarta and Denpasar (Bali) to destinations in Asia, the Middle East and the Pacific.
"The A330 has proven to be a key element in the success of the revitalised Garuda Indonesia," said Emirsyah Satar, President & CEO, Garuda Indonesia. "The low seat mile cost and high passenger appeal make the aircraft a perfect fit for our fleet and a firm favourite with our passengers."
"We are pleased to extend our long-standing partnership with Garuda Indonesia," said Tom Williams, Executive Vice President, Programmes, Airbus. "The A330 is undisputed leader in its class. It offers proven reliability, low operating costs and one of the most comfortable cabins in the sky. This winning combination makes it the preferred choice of airlines worldwide and will enable Garuda Indonesia to realise its full potential as a premier international carrier."
The twin engine A330 is one of the most widely used widebody aircraft in service today. Airbus has recorded nearly 1,200 orders for the various versions of the aircraft and more than 800 aircraft are flying with some 90 operators worldwide. In addition to passenger and freighter aircraft, the A330 is also available in VIP and military transport / tanker variants.
Garuda Indonesia currently operates 14 A330 aircraft, comprising eight A330-200s and six A330-300s.
EADS highly recognized as an employer of choice
- EADS confirms its top scores in France, Germany and Spain
- EADS ranked N° 1 by French engineering students
- France: Randstad award ranks Eurocopter N° 1 and Airbus N° 2 employers
- Germany and Spain: Randstad award ranks EADS N° 2
EADS and its divisions Airbus, Astrium, Cassidian and Eurocopter have once again been recognized as top employers and have won several awards acknowledging their efforts in the field of HR policies. EADS is seen as an employer of choice by the working population all over Europe. EADS, and in particular Airbus and Eurocopter, often made it to the top 3 companies for which European employees would like to work.
"Facing both EADS ambitious growth plans and the increasing scarcity of qualified applicants, we attach the greatest importance to attracting young talents and highly qualified employees. Thus, we are very proud of these rankings which confirm our excellent image as top employer across Europe," says Kerrie-Ann Stein-Goujon, EADS Employment Marketing Network Coordinator. "These awards prove we are on the right track in permanently fostering the attractiveness of EADS – which will be an important asset for our plans to recruit 5,000 new permanent employees in Europe this year." Attracting young engineers, EADS was recently ranked N° 1 by French engineering students in both, the Trendence and the UNIVERSUM graduate surveys – two leading European employer surveys. The Universum Awards surveys 400,000 students and professionals to show what attracts graduates for their career and choice of organizations. For the 8th time in a row, EADS could confirm and even strengthen its position as the most attractive employer for engineers in France. This is an encouraging result for the company, which aims at hiring 5,000 new permanent employees in Europe this year, thereof roughly about 2,000 in each, France and Germany.
EADS also attracts experienced professionals. In the Randstad awards last month, EADS and its divisions Airbus and Eurocopter have been among the top 3 in several countries: in Germany, EADS was ranked N° 2 after the Fraunhofer Gesellschaft and ahead of BMW. In France, Eurocopter was ranked N° 1 and Airbus N° 2, ahead of EDF and in Spain, EADS was ranked N° 2.
Randstad is an international company offering temporary staffing and HR services. The Randstad Award program is based on a research platform that gives insight into the key drivers of talent attraction within Germany and across the world. For the first time in 2009, Randstad and ICMA – a research company – expanded the already existing Randstad Award program to Germany in order to measure employer brands in the country.
Already in 2011, EADS and its divisions had received awards in recognition of their status of employer of choice leading to being the N° 3 employer in Europe, according to the Universum Top 100 survey for Europe.
In order to even further foster this status as one of the most preferred employers, EADS has launched the initiative "my Life at EADS" in 2011. This internal programme places the balance between professional and private life as well as employees' health and safety at the core of the company's concerns and HR policies. Four work streams that address topics of interest have been defined within the program, such as safety and health, wellbeing and stress prevention, childcare and family support as well as adaptive workplace. Those are the key drivers that define EADS' HR policy and that make the group an attractive employer.
