Boeing Launches 787 Dream Tour in China
- New airplane pays its first visit to mainland China, landing in Beijing
- Additional stops scheduled in Guangzhou and Haikou
BEIJING, Dec. 4, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- The Boeing (NYSE:BA) 787 Dreamliner arrived today at the Beijing Capital International Airport, making its debut in mainland China, one of the world's fastest-growing aviation and travel markets. It also marks the start of a six-month worldwide Dream Tour with the all-new jet.
The airplane will be in China Dec. 4 through 11, with stops in Beijing, Guangzhou and Haikou, where Chinese customers, partners, government officials and media will experience the revolutionary technology and passenger innovation firsthand.
"Chinese airlines including Air China, China Southern, Hainan Airlines and Xiamen Airlines have been instrumental in bringing this game-changing airplane to the market," said Ihssane Mounir, senior vice president of Sales & Marketing for greater China and Korea, Boeing Commercial Airplanes. "We thank them for their initial commitment to the first new airplane of the 21st century."
The airplane, ZA003, was originally used for flight testing but has been elegantly refurbished to showcase the standard capabilities and features of the 787.
"I'm extremely impressed with what I saw including the spacious cabin, largest-ever windows, larger overhead bins, and the dynamic LED lighting," said Fan Cheng, senior vice president of Air China. "I believe the Dreamliner will enable Air China to offer a superior passenger experience and I look forward to its important role in Air China's plans for international expansion."
"This great day demonstrates our partnership with China in pursuing aviation excellence," said Marc Allen, Boeing China president. "Chengfei, Hafei and Shenfei -- as exclusive and single-source Boeing suppliers -- have made a great contribution to the success of the 787 program, producing the rudder, wing-to-body fairing, and vertical fin leading edge. We want to thank them for their role in making today possible."
Made from composite materials, the Boeing 787 Dreamliner is the first mid-size airplane capable of flying long-range routes and will allow airlines to open new, non-stop routes preferred by the traveling public. As a result of innovative technologies, the airplane offers unparalleled operating economics, fuel efficiency and passenger comfort. More than 800 787s are on order by more than 50 airlines, a testament to the airplane's unique capabilities
Aeroflot’s Sukhoi Superjet 100 aircraft starts to serve international routes
December 5 2011, Moscow — The Sukhoi Superjet 100 aircraft (RA 89002, MSN 95010) in operation with Aeroflot Russian Airlines performed a flight SU391/392 on route Moscow — Oslo — Moscow, marking the beginning of the scheduled services of the airline’s international destinations by aircraft of this type. It is expected that this year Aeroflot’s SSJ100 aircraft will also fly to Budapest.
“The fact that the SSJ100 started to serve international routes of Aeroflot reflects the confidence of the airline in the reliability of our aircraft. We believe that the SSJ100 aircraft will efficiently serve both international and domestic routes of Aeroflot and will do our best to make sure that the growing fleet of SSJ100 meets the expectations of the airline”, noted Vladimir Prisyazhnyuk, President of JSC “Sukhoi Civil Aircraft”.
Aeroflot currently operates three SSJ100 aircraft which serve routes from Moscow to St. Petersburg, Nizhny Novgorod, Yekaterinburg, Ufa, Astrakhan, Chelyabinsk, Kazan, Anapa, Perm and Minsk. On December 4 these aircraft started to serve international routes of the airline. Aeroflot’s operations confirm that the aircraft is able to serve efficiently regional routes with the high frequency of departure.
North America needs 5,901 new passenger aircraft in next 20 years
Region to see 66 percent growth in passenger fleet
1 DECEMBER 2011 PRESS RELEASE
According to the recently released Airbus Global Market Forecast (GMF), the U.S. and Canada will require 5,901 new passenger aircraft of more than 100 seats between today and 2030. In that same time period, there will be a need for 414 new freighter aircraft. This total of 6,315 new aircraft deliveries has an estimated value of $648 billion. These region-specific figures were presented today in Washington, D.C. by Airbus Chief Operating Officer – Customers, John Leahy.
By 2030, North America will rank third, behind Asia-Pacific and Europe, in world traffic. With a 20-year growth in revenue passenger miles of 3.3 percent, North America remains one of the world’s strongest markets. In fact, today, and in 2030, domestic U.S. traffic is and will continue to be the largest single air traffic flow region on the planet.
Even with its size and maturity, North American inter-regional traffic has grown by 11 percent over the last 10 years. Currently, more than 25 percent of the total world revenue passenger miles are carried on U.S. and Canadian airlines.
While the growth rate of the North American market is less dramatic than in some expanding regions of the world such as China and India, the U.S. and Canada have the highest percentage of existing aircraft that will need to be replaced in the coming decades. Specifically, 41 percent of the aircraft currently in service in North America will need to be replaced over the next 20 years – greater than in any other region of the world.
North America continues to be a key market for Airbus’ newest aircraft types. For example, in 2011, there were eight new routes for the A380 to the U.S. and Canada. Airports which currently see regular A380 traffic include San Francisco, Los Angeles, Montreal, New York, Washington D.C. and Miami.
From a sales perspective, the A320neo and the A350XWB have made dramatic inroads in the U.S. market. Orders and commitments for the A320neo include U.S. customer airlines:
• American Airlines - 130
• Republic/Frontier - 80
• Spirit Airlines - 45
• JetBlue Airways - 40
• Virgin America - 30
The Airbus Global Market Forecast shows the need for some 1,140 twin-aisle aircraft in North America in the next 20 years, and most of those have yet to be competed for. To date, firm orders for the A350XWB include U.S. customer airlines:
• United Airlines - 25
• US Airways - 22
• Hawaiian Airlines - 6
Overall, the market for passenger aircraft in North America is expected to grow by 66 percent over the next 20 years. The growth for dedicated freighters in the region is even greater, with a growth rate in the same period of some 80 percent. Globally, by 2030, some 27,800 new aircraft valued at $3.5 trillion will be required to satisfy the robust future market demand.
With more than 3,100 aircraft sold (including to U.S.-based leasing companies) and a backlog of some 1,000, there are currently more than 1,100 Airbus aircraft in operation throughout the U.S. and Canada.
Note to editors:
The Airbus Global Market Forecast gives a detailed analysis of world air transport developments, covering 300 distinct passenger and freight traffic flows, as well as a year-by-year fleet evolution of the world’s aircraft operators, through fleet analysis of nearly 750 passenger airlines and 190 freighter operators over the next 20 years. In doing so, the forecast covers aircraft demand from the regional market to the very largest aircraft available today, the A380
Transaero Airlines firms up order for eight A320neo aircraft
First customer in Russia and CIS for eco-efficient A320neo
5 DECEMBER 2011 PRESS RELEASE
Transaero Airlines, Russia’s second largest airline, has signed a firm order for eight A320neo aircraft following a Memorandum of Understanding signed in August at the International Aviation and Space Salon MAKS-2011 in Moscow. The A320neo (new engine option) is an efficiency improvement package offering up to 15 percent fuel savings on the A320 Family.
Transaero Airlines is planning to operate the aircraft on its extended medium-haul network of domestic and international routes as part of its expansion strategy and fleet renewal programme. The engine selection will be announced by the airline at a later date.
Olga Pleshakova, Transaero Airlines CEO, said, “This order for the A320neo confirms Transaero’s ambition to become the first operator of this aircraft type in Russia, the CIS and Eastern Europe. These newest aircraft will enable us to offer maximum comfort to our passengers, while their high fuel efficiency will help us make air transportation affordable for wider audience. “
“Transaero is an exceptionally forward looking and pioneering airline in Russia and we are delighted to play such a significant role in the company’s future strategy.” said John Leahy, Airbus Chief Operating Officer, Customers. “In a fiercely competitive market this is a great endorsement for our eco-efficient, passenger pleasing A320neo aircraft.”
Over 8,100 A320 Family aircraft have already been ordered and more than 4,800 delivered to more than 340 customers and operators worldwide reaffirming its position as the world’s best-selling single-aisle aircraft family. The A320neo has over 95 percent airframe commonality with the current A320, making it an easy fit into existing fleets while offering up to 500 nautical miles (950 kilometres) more range or two tonnes more payload at a given range.
The A320neo is a new engine option for the A320 Family entering into service from 2015 and incorporates latest generation engines and large "Sharklet" wing tip devices, which together will deliver 15 percent in fuel savings. This reduction in fuel burn is equivalent to 1.4m litres of fuel – the consumption of 1,000 mid size cars. This saves 3,600 metric tonnes of C02 per aircraft per year, the amount absorbed by 240,000 mature trees. The A320neo NOx emissions are 50% below CAEP/6 and this aircraft also has a considerably smaller noise footprint.
France begins taking delivery of eight additional Airbus Military CN235s
The Flight Test Centre of the Direction Générale de l’Armament (DGA) of the French Ministry of Defence has taken delivery of the first of eight CN235 medium airlifters ordered from Airbus Military by the French DGA last year.
These eight aircraft will be operated by the French Air Force, to add to the 19 examples it already has in service. The last of the remaining seven aircraft ordered will be delivered by the end of 2012.
The CN235 can carry up to six tonnes of payload and its cabin can be quickly and easily reconfigured for different transport missions: troops, paratroops, medical evacuation, cargo, or a mixed configuration of cargo and troops. It incorporates a specialised loading system for palletized loads.
The flexibility and reliability of the CN235 make it an ideal tool for the French Air Force to conduct both traditional military and „civic missions‟ for the benefit of society. Its short take-off and landing (STOL) performance and its ability to use unprepared and semi-prepared runways allow the CN235 to operate closer to the theatre of operations than other aircraft. This is often crucial when the CN235 is used to transport humanitarian relief after a natural disaster, allowing rapid delivery of supplies closer to where they are needed.
“We are very proud that the French Air Force has trusted once more in Airbus Military and its range of products to strengthen its fleet. The eight CN235 aircraft ordered from France incorporate the latest technologies and systems to ensure the best performance of the missions they will carry out after their entry in service”, said Airbus Military Head of
Programmes, Rafael Tentor.
The French Air Force already operates 19 CN235 aircraft. The Centre d’Essais en Vol of the French Government also operates three Airbus Military C212s.To date, Airbus Military has sold 211 CN235 aircraft to 32 different operators.

U.S. Sources Confirm: RQ-170 Crashed in Iran
U.S. Sources Confirm: RQ-170 Crashed in Iran: It was indeed a stealthy RQ-170 Sentinel that crashed in Iran, say U.S. Air Force officials with connections to the intelligence community. Iran says it was shot down. U.S. intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance specialists say the flying wing broke contact with its ground station and subsequently crashed.
The question of interest now is whether the U.S.-owned unmanned reconnaissance aircraft are regularly flying missions along Iran’s border looking into Iran to monitor missile tests and other activities or whether they are penetrating to look more closely at missile test facilities and nuclear weapons operations.
The latest confirmation differs from earlier reports in that those said it was “possibly” or had a “50-50 chance” of being the Lockheed Martin aircraft. All comments also indicate that there was no doubt about U.S. government aircraft being in Iranian airspace.

Iran Claims RQ-170 Shot Down
Iran Claims RQ-170 Shot Down: USAF Says No Evidence To Support Claim The US military is dismissing the latest claim by Iran that it has downed a US drone as a distraction tactic in the face of growing international isolation. The Pentagon does say the US Air Force lost control of an RQ-170 Sentinel reconnaissance and surveillance drone over western Pakistan last week, but there is no evidence it was shot down by Iran.
