November 29, 2011, Moscow — The first conference on the Sukhoi Superjet aircraft operations by Armavia Airlines was held at the headquarters of Sukhoi Civil Aircraft Company (SCAC) in Moscow on November 22, 2011. Representatives of Armavia, SCAC, SuperJet International (SJI) and PowerJet attended the conference.

The positive results noted during the conference confirmed the successful commercial operation and efficiency of the Sukhoi Superjet 100 (SSJ100). During seven months of operations (from April 21 to November 20) the aircraft totaled 528 commercial flights and over 1,300 flight hours. The SSJ100 carried over 33,000 passengers and covered distance nearly a million kilometers.

Armavia SSJ100 regularly performs flights from Yerevan to 31 airports in Russia, Ukraine, Georgia, Western and Southern Europe and Middle East. Flights were performed at 35000 — 39000 ft altitude, at the speed of 0.78-0.8 M. The highest daily utilization reached 16.5 flight hours while the longest distance exceeded 4,000 kilometers on route Yerevan — Madrid. The SSJ100 fully confirmed to be suitable both to regional and to short-haul routes.

“Operations of our first production aircraft by Armavia match our expectations. I am confident that the SSJ100 will be efficiently operated by all our customers. Together with our partners on the SSJ100 Program we will actively listen to the airlines’ needs and rapidly fulfill their requirements”, said JSC Sukhoi Civil Aircraft First Vice-President for design and certification Igor Vinogradov.

“On behalf of our closed-to-operations people — pilots, flight attendants and technician staff I would like to say that the SSJ100 perfectly met our requirements. It’s worth saying that with SSJ100 in our fleet we have the aircraft which efficiently fits some of our mainline destinations. As confirmed by our flight attendants, the passengers highly appreciate the extreme comfort of the aircraft. I believe that continuous dialogue between Armavia, SCAC and SJI teams will help to optimize the operation, so that to use the full potential of this remarkable aircraft” noted Head of Armavia Flight Services Sergey Kharatyan.

During the conference the SuperJet International’s customer support had the opportunity to register Armavia’s impression on the multifaceted after-sales infrastructure to best support the SSJ100 program and to pave the way for further improvements. A firmly positive feedback from Armavia was received in particular on the highly professional training services offered to Armavia’s pilots, cabin crews and maintenance staff.

Eurocopter delivers the first of six EC145s ordered by the Republic of Kazakhstan

Marignane, November 25, 2011

Eurocopter delivered the first of six EC145s ordered to date by the Kazakh Ministries of Defense and Emergencies. A total of 45 of the helicopters are to be purchased, and will be assembled by the new joint venture Eurocopter Kazakhstan Engineering, in which Eurocopter and Kazakhstan Engineering have a 50/50 share.

This initial delivery comes on the heels of the industrial cooperation and distribution contract signed last June by Eurocopter CEO Lutz Bertling and President of Kazakhstan Engineering Bolat Smagulov, in the presence of the French and Kazakh prime ministers François Fillon and Karim Massimov, respectively.

The new joint venture, Eurocopter Kazakhstan Engineering, will be assembling and customizing EC145s at its facilities near the Astana International Airport in Kazakhstan. The company will also enable Eurocopter to provide its customers in Kazakhstan and Central Asia with better local services for helicopter maintenance as well as training for pilots and technicians. In addition, Eurocopter Kazakhstan Engineering will be pursuing sales activities throughout the region.

Eurocopter Kazakhstan Engineering is scheduled to deliver the initial six EC145s to the Kazakh Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Emergencies before the end of the year for search and rescue and medical evacuation missions. The remaining helicopters are to be delivered by the end of 2016.

“The delivery of this first EC145 is very symbolic, as it marks the beginning of operations as part of our cooperation with Kazakhstan Engineering,” said Olivier Michalon, Global Business & Services Vice President for Europe and Central Asia. “We are very proud to be part of the Eurocopter Kazakhstan Engineering joint venture, as it will enable us to deploy major industrial capacities in the Kazakh aviation industry and lay the groundwork for the development of a new, highly specialized sector in the country. We are also convinced that the new joint venture will place Eurocopter in an excellent position for future development locally, as we are poised to provide operators with helicopters that are particularly well suited for the oil & gas industry and parapublic missions, including emergency medical services, homeland security and patrol, military, corporate and VIP.”

The EC145 is a true standout in the twin-engine, medium-lift class. It offers multi-mission capabilities and is equipped with the latest innovations developed by Eurocopter in cockpit design, avionics and rotor systems. It is certified for flight at temperatures as low as -45°C,making it particularly well suited for the harsh weather conditions and frigid temperatures often encountered in Kazakhstan.

Marlog project: Eurocopter officially ends work on its ambitious program to optimize the Group’s logistics chain

Marignane, November 24, 2011

Eurocopter has inaugurated its new logistics platform at its industrial site in Marignane, marking the end to an innovative program to re-engineer the Group’s entire logistics chain and implement a flexible, high-performance tool. The investments made over the past two years to develop modern means will enable Eurocopter to reduce both logistics costs and delivery cycles, so that the company’s assembly lines, customers and industrial partners will all be receiving their parts much faster.

The program was launched two years ago with an ambitious goal: to reorganize the entire logistics chain based on two dedicated platforms. The incoming flows and industrial logistics have now been centralized at the plant in Marignane, while the outgoing flows and spare part deliveries have all been grouped together at a brand-new platform located close by at the Florides industrial park.

To ensure that its operators around the world could receive their spares in record time, Eurocopter worked together with its partners to build a new infrastructure, Eurocopter Global Logistic, in the Florides industrial park near the Marignane plant. The new logistics center, which opened its doors last June, boasts some impressive numbers: 53,500 square meters of floor space, an inventory of more than 1.5 million spare parts, and more than 300,000 parts shipped per year. The platform is now fully operational and houses all the Group’s logistics activities within a specially-designed unit offering 24/7 services.

In parallel, the industrial logistics chain was also reorganized, and the Marignane plant now manages all incoming flows and industrial logistics activities. Two automated warehouses have been set up that together have the capacity to store a total of 180,000 parts—a first in Europe.

“When we undertook this huge project to overhaul our logistics chain, our biggest challenge was to keep providing our customers with the same high levels of services—plus we couldn’t allow our work to have any impact on the production lines,” explained Joseph Saporito, Executive Vice President of the Global Supply Chain at the Eurocopter Group. “We completed the job right on schedule, and are already beginning to reap the benefits in terms of customer satisfaction and competitiveness. The key to our success was excellent teamwork—between the different sectors here at Eurocopter, and also with our long-time partner Daher.”

It should not be long before the bold decision taken two years ago in a difficult economic context pays off. The new infrastructures integrate the most modern flow management tools and processes available, and Eurocopter now has everything at its disposal to attain three major goals: to improve customer service, provide its industrial lines with new just-in-time delivery services, and create new production areas at the plant by centralizing activities to free up space.

Boeing Receives $20 Million Contract to Upgrade F-15C Trainers

Cutting-edge visual system will provide 360 degrees of immersive training
ST. LOUIS, Nov. 29, 2011 -- The Boeing Company [NYSE: BA] received a $20 million contract in September from the U.S. Air Force to upgrade the visual systems in the F-15C Mission Training Centers. Twelve MTCs, located at Langley Air Force Base, Va., Royal Air Force Lakenheath, United Kingdom, and Kadena Air Base, Japan, will be upgraded with Boeing’s Constant Resolution Visual System (CRVS).
CRVS is the centerpiece of a complete training suite that provides 360 degrees of immersive training, with a significantly lower cost than previous visual systems. By using standard, off-the-shelf projectors, the system is able to take advantage of the rapidly improving technology emerging in the commercial marketplace.
“A key feature of the CRVS is the ability to train with the Joint Helmet Mounted Cueing System and night vision goggles, both of which will be used in the F-15C MTC,” said Mark McGraw, Boeing vice president for Training Systems & Services.
The Boeing CRVS reduces total system life cycle cost by minimizing the number of projectors by one-third to one-half the number of projectors used in competing systems. The system is compatible with a full array of fast jet and rotary wing cockpits.
"CRVS is unique because it is the only system to provide constant resolution throughout the field of view,” added McGraw. “It eliminates a key problem with other systems, where the visibility of targets varies depending on where the pilot looks. Our design provides increased performance, yet is simple in concept.”
Installation of the F-15C visual systems will begin in October 2012 and will be completed by January 2013, allowing training to start by the end of that month.

Info - EUROFIGHTER TYPHOON VISITS LIMA FOR FIRST TIME

Friday, 25. November 2011

The Eurofighter Typhoon will be flying across the skies of Langkawi for the first time as a UK Royal Air Force aircraft participates in one of the most important global defence and security shows, LIMA 2011, which takes place in Langkawi, Malaysia, from 6-10 December.

Just a few days after particpating at the Dubai Air Show and with aircraft still in Malaysia following Exercise BERSAMA LIMA, the Typhoon will excite the crowds with displays demonstrating its incredible agility and speed.

Four RAF Typhoon aircraft from 6 Squadron flew from their base in Scotland to the Royal Malaysian Air Force airbase in Butterworth, Malaysia to take part in Exercise BERSAMA LIMA marking the 40th Anniversary of the Five Powers Defence Arrangement (FPDA), and whilst in the region wanted to reflect the importance of the air force to air force relationship by attending this prestigious exhibition.

Eurofighter Typhoon is the world’s most advanced multi-role combat aircraft. It meets current and future fast combat air needs and provides best-in-class combat effectiveness and operational flexibility. The Typhoon is capable of being deployed in the full spectrum of air operations from air policing and peace support, through to high intensity conflict. Typhoon aircraft have recently been deployed on operations and have performed exceptionally well, demonstrating outstanding levels of availability and maintainability.

BAE Systems’ Typhoon Test Pilot, Nat Makepeace, spoke about flying during the show:

“I am delighted to be at LIMA 2011 flying the Eurofighter Typhoon. I am hoping to show the tremendous power and agility of this fantastic aircraft during the daily displays. It is a wonderful opportunity to be in Malaysia and I am very grateful to have the chance to fly the aircraft during this international air show”.

At the show, Eurofighter will display a selection of the capabilities of the Typhoon, including:

  • Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) radar. The large aircraft nose allows for an optimised array with the addition of an innovative re-positioner to broaden the field of regard to more than 200 degrees, some 50% wider than traditional fixed plate AESA radar systems.
  • The most advanced Helmet Mounted Symbology System (HMSS) which forms a key component of the Eurofighter Typhoon weapon system improving tactical performance for Eurofighter pilots by providing essential flight and weapon aiming information through line of sight imagery. Information imagery includes aircraft’s flight parameters, weapons status and aiming all projected on the HEA (Helmet Equipment Assembly) visor.
  • The Meteor missile, considered the “game changer” in terms of kill probablity thanks to its dynamic performances, speed and range.
  • Eurojet’s EJ200 engine, the most advanced military engine available on the market.
