TIM ROBINSON reports on Day 1 highlights from this year’s Dubai Air Show on 13-17 November
To Dubai, and once again for air show visitors it is a chance to spot ‘what’s changed’ as the skyscrapers continue to shoot up and change the skyline of the city. This year, while the breakneck construction has slowed – a new vision since the last show in 2009 is the impressive Burj Khalifa - the world’s tallest building.
So as the Burj Khalifa looks to the sky, will the air show soar too? Lets take a look from the first days highlights.

CASSIDIAN awarded framework contract for maintenance and support of Spanish Air Force C130 HERCULES fleet
- Contract runs until 2015
- Maintenance work shall be carried out in Getafe
The framework contract for maintenance and support of the Spanish Air Force’s twelve C130 HERCULES planes was recently awarded to Cassidian Spain through an international open tender procedure.
The contract runs until 2015 and includes maintenance of the fleet which is beyond the capacities of the Air Force repair depots. The work will be carried out at Cassidian’s facilities in Getafe, Technical assistance will be provided at the Zaragoza air base and the depot facilities in Seville. The contract also includes purchasing of spare parts, and modifications of the aircraft.
Enrique Barrientos, CEO of Cassidian Spain, commented: “We are proud that the Spanish Air Force has placed its trust in our company for the maintenance and technical support of its fleet of C130 HERCULES. We have extensive experience, acquired during the upgrade programme and the maintenance checks. We also have an excellent team of experts who guarantee the full satisfaction of our Spanish customer.”
