Primer vuelo en estacionario del F-35 Lightning II

El F-35, en concreto el BF-1 ha realizado hoy 17 de marzo su primer vuelo en estacionario. Con el sistema de sustentación, el aparato frenó de 150nudos (algo menos de 300km/h) a vuelo estacionario, permaneció así dos minutos, moviéndose arriba y abajo, izquierda y derecha, chequeando todos los controles, y a continuación realizó un aterrizaje corto.

Este éxito limpia el camino hacia el primer aterrizaje en vertical.

El "paso" o pitch a aumentado 7.5cm, y el peso delos asientos de ha reducido un 40%, lo que se estima que supondrá 750kg menos de peso de asientos por cada avión. Lo que implica gastar menos combustible para un mismo recorrido...

Navy pilots Safe after Mid-air Collision

NAVAL AIR STATION FALLON, Nev. (NNS) -- Two single seat, F/A-18E Super Hornet aircraft, were involved in a mid-air collision at approximately 10 p.m. March 15 while on a routine training mission flying in the Fallon Range Training Complex. Neither pilot was injured.

Both aircraft are assigned to Strike Fighter Squadron One Three Seven (VFA 137) based at NAS Lemoore, Calif.

One pilot safely landed his aircraft with reported damage at 10:13 p.m. at Naval Air Station (NAS) Fallon. The other aircraft crashed in a remote area east of NAS Fallon. The pilot ejected safely and was recovered near the crash site at 11:20 p.m. by the NAS Fallon "Longhorns" Search and Rescue team, which flew a SH-60F Seahawk helicopter to the site. The pilot was transported to a local medical facility for further evaluation and has since been released.

The cause of the mishap is under investigation.

Rocket powered Dragonfly DF1 helicopter cleared for take-off

Helicóptero con motores cohete en la punta de las palas. ¿Ventajas? NO necesita rotor antipar, por ejemplo... y ligereza del motor. No es un sistema novedoso, ya se ha intentado en otras ocasiones. Lo novedoso de este modelo en sí es que los motores están alimentados con peróxido de hidrógeno (H2O2-agua oxigenada), que con un catalizador se descompone en Agua (H2O)y Oxígeno (O2), liberando un chorro de gases, sin emitir CO2 ni óxidos de nitrógeno... ni otros contaminantes

The Dragonfly DF1 is a helicopter that uses rockets attached to the tips of its blades to power it instead of a conventional fixed motor attached to the body. The rockets produce no pollution and are fueled by 70 percent hydrogen peroxide (H202) supplied by a pair if fuel tanks surrounding the pilot's seat. They are capable of propelling the DF1 to a top speed of 185 km/h (115 mph) and can send the craft climbing to a ceiling of 4,000m (2.485 miles) at a rate of 700 m (2,300 ft) a minute
