Boeing Highlights BBJ Convertible Airplane and C-17 Globemaster III Capabilities at FIDAE Air Show
jueves, 25 de marzo de 2010
The Boeing Company [NYSE: BA], the world's leading aerospace company, will highlight its commercial and defense capabilities during this year's FIDAE International Air and Space Fair, which begins March 23 in Santiago.
"Boeing stands united with Chile and FIDAE organizers in light of last month's tragic earthquake," said Steve Taylor, president of Boeing Business Jets. "We extend our condolences to all Chilean citizens who have suffered a great loss."
Taylor flew to FIDAE with relief supplies from the United States on a loaned BBJ Convertible. Boeing Business Jets, in partnership with AmeriCares, FEDES (Fundación Educativa para el Desarrollo Económico y Social) and LAN Airlines, delivered more than 11,500 pounds of relief supplies onboard the BBJ Convertible this morning. The supplies included much-needed consumer hygiene products such as soap and diapers in addition to flashlights and water containers. The BBJ Convertible will be on static display during FIDAE.
Boeing's presence at FIDAE also includes flying and static displays of the C-17 Globemaster III – the world's most advanced airlifter.
"The C-17 Globemaster III is recognized as the airlifter of choice for supporting international disaster-relief and humanitarian missions around the world, including the recent tragedies in Chile and Haiti," said Joe McAndrew, Boeing Defense, Space & Security vice president of International Business Development for Europe, Israel and Americas. "We are pleased with the outstanding level of support C-17s have given Chile. Soon after the earthquake, a U.S. Air Force Expeditionary Medical Support team from Lackland Air Force Base, Texas, flew to Santiago aboard three C-17s. The Qatar Emiri Air Force and United Kingdom Royal Air Force also delivered relief to Chilean citizens in need of humanitarian aid and medical assistance."
The Boeing exhibit will showcase the 787 Dreamliner and the Next-Generation 737, the CH-47 Chinook helicopter, the ScanEagle unmanned aerial vehicle, and the F/A-18E/F Super Hornet simulator, which consists of a front and rear cockpit and demonstrates the capabilities of both the single-seat E-model and the two-seat F-model.
Boeing Commercial Airplanes will hold a press briefing at 1400 hours on Tuesday, March 23, focusing on 787 and 747-8 flight-test updates, a market update and product family overview. On Wednesday, March 24, a Boeing executive will be among the panel members discussing aviation and the environment at the
