Helicopter Terrain Awareness And Warning System Helps Prevent Ground Collisions

"Honeywell's technology ensures that all helicopter pilots can have EGPWS in their cockpits today to help avoid terrain and obstacles such as towers," said TK Kallenbach, Honeywell Vice President, Program Management. "Our EGPWS systems are specifically engineered for rotary-wing operation and helicopter flight characteristics, and will make helicopters equipped with this technology much safer."

Boeing Advanced Tactical Laser Strikes Moving Target in Test

During the test, the C-130H aircraft took off from Kirtland Air Force Base near Albuquerque and fired a high-power chemical laser through its beam control system while flying over White Sands Missile Range. The beam control system guided the laser beam's energy to the unoccupied, remotely controlled target, striking the vehicle and putting a hole in a fender. The test demonstrated the ability to aim and fire a high-energy laser beam at a moving target.

Chinese researchers break through the mysteries of UAVs and UCAVs

defpro.com | Larry Dickerson, senior unmanned systems analyst for Forecast International, recently stated that the international demand for unmanned aircraft is rapidly growing, with the United States continuing to be the key driver of this trend. According to Dickerson, U.S.-based companies will account for more than 60 per cent of the market's value. However, western European countries and Israel are keeping up with the pace and spawning domestic development of such systems, which in some cases could already achieve more or less significant export successes (particularly Israel) with their industrial solutions. With respect to the obvious boom of unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) development and export programmes in western countries, China, as much as Russia, still lag somewhat behind.

Hydrogen-Powered Navy UAV Shatters Flight Endurance Record

Flying out of the Aberdeen Proving Ground, the Ion Tiger UAV set a new record for hydrogen-powered flight by staying aloft for 23 hours and 17 minutes. This places close to the 30-36 hour endurance of the Tiger's gas guzzling Predator and Reaper cousins.
